Week 10 - Wednesday

Circle time:
As described in earlier circle time post
Letter of the week: J
Theme of the week: Jobs

Arts & crafts:
The kids made mailboxes out of old shoe boxes and decorated them by gluing on various craft foam shapes and using letter stickers to spell their names.

Free play at stations:
None.

Story time:
Flik the Inventor by Saxon/Brown/Phillipson
Show Me Your Smile! A Visit to the Dentist by Ricci/Roper

Cooperative game:
Rummy.

Science experiment:

Since the weather this week was forecasted as being sunny and warm, I decided the theme for this week's experiments would be "Outdoor Fun!"

Volcanoes
Today the kids made volcanoes using empty Gatorade bottles, baking soda and vinegar.

Physical activity:
Running, climbing, sliding and playing with balls in the YMCA gym with me. We also inflated the backyard bouncy house for the first time this year and the kids went wild!

Outing/social time:
1 hour at the YMCA childcare.

Worksheets:
Coloring J word pictures, tracing letter J, tracing J words, matching uppercase and lowercase letters I-K, counting and finding numeral, finding different, finding longest in a group, tracing numeral 9, cutting straight lines.

Hands on math:
Today we brought our math into the bouncy house! First I had the kids count their bounces as high as they could go (or until they collapsed!) Then I asked the older kids to skip count as they bounced (i.e. count by 2s, by 5s, by 10s).

Computers:
Job games on the iPad (Swapsies, Great Jobs for Kids, Occupations puzzles).

Music:
None.

French:
French is emphasized throughout the entire day; especially theme related words. Today we practiced saying "Est-ce que je peux aller dehors s'il-vous-plait?" when they want to go outside and also continued to reinforce all of the notions that we covered in previous weeks. We will continue to practice these sentences all week.
