Week 17 - Wednesday

Circle time:
As described in earlier circle time post
Letters of the week: U and V
Theme of the week: Under the sea and Vacation

Arts & crafts:
Today the kids each made a starfish by painting glue onto a cardboard starfish cutout and then sprinkling (ok dumping!) sand on top and shaking off the excess.



Free play at stations:
None.

Story time:
The Magic School Bus and the Shark Adventure by Cole/Degen
Arthur's Family Vacation by Brown
Clifford the Bog Red Dog - Camping Out by Marsoli/Bracken/Edwards

Cooperative game:
Under the Sea themed bingo game - picture to word matching.

Science experiment:

Examining items from the sea
Today the kids took a close up look at sand, various shaped shells and sand dollars using their magnifying glasses and took turns describing how each one looked and felt.



Physical activity:
Outdoor play in the backyard.

Outing/social time:
1 hour at the YMCA childcare.

Worksheets:
Coloring U and V word pictures, tracing letters U and V, tracing U and V words, tracing numeral 4, counting and finding numeral, ocean picture matching, finding ocean animals in larger group, cutting straight lines.

Hands on math:
None.

Computers:
Under the Sea themed games on the iPad: Flick Fishing, Fish Tales, Memory Cards, Crazy Submarine: Extreme Push, Fish Food Frenzy, Peekaboo Ocean, Aquarium Coloring for Kids Lite, What Has Changed?, The Little Mermaid's Surprise.

Music:
Danced and sang along to our Under the Sea and Vacation theme compilation cd.

French:
French is emphasized throughout the entire day; especially theme related words. Today we practiced saying "C'est facile" and "C'est difficile" to describe when something is easy or hard to do and also continued to reinforce all of the notions that we covered in previous weeks. We will continue to practice these sentences all week.
