Week 17 - Thursday

Circle time:

Theme of the week: Under the sea and Vacation

Arts & crafts:
Today the kids painted shells that their grandparents brought them back from a trip to Florida earlier in the year.





Free play at stations:
As described in earlier free play post

Station 1: colouring under the sea and vacation themed pictures, drawing and cutting
Station 2: various puzzles (Dora map of Canada, alphabet boat, Ariel, Franklin)
Station 3: Play-Doh, lacing, Geoforme game
Station 4: free play with theme related toys: all types of sea creature toys, Polly Pocket water slide, Leap Frog globe, dress-up clothes for vacation role play
Station 5: Trio blocks and Lincoln Logs
Station 6: basket of theme related books



Story time:
A Humpback Whale Tale by Spelvin/Zalme
Finding Nemo (Read Aloud Storybook) by Marsoli/Disney Storybook Artists
Are We There Yet? by Albee

Cooperative game:
Today we played a game where I gave each kid a theme related word on a sheet of paper which they were to read (I helped Roxy with this part) and then race to the living room to find a picture of that word that was on the coffee table. Whoever made the most matches was the winner!

Science experiment:
None.

Physical activity:
Soccer, baseball and play at the park.

Outing/social time:
Soccer, baseball and play at the park.

Worksheets:
Coloring U and V word pictures, tracing & writing letters U and V, tracing U and V words, tracing numeral 5, matching theme related pictures to words, matching uppercase to lowercase letter T-W, cutting straight lines.

Hands on math:
Today we turned snack time into math time by using fishy crackers to explore such things as estimation, counting, addition, subtraction, more then, less than and equal to.



Computers:
Under the Sea themed games on the iPad: Flick Fishing, Fish Tales, Memory Cards, Crazy Submarine: Extreme Push, Fish Food Frenzy, Peekaboo Ocean, Aquarium Coloring for Kids Lite, What Has Changed?, The Little Mermaid's Surprise.

Music:
Danced and sang along to our Under the Sea and Vacation theme compilation cd.

French:
French is emphasized throughout the entire day; especially theme related words. Today we practiced saying "C'est facile" and "C'est difficile" to describe when something is easy or hard to do and also continued to reinforce all of the notions that we covered in previous weeks. We will continue to practice these sentences all week.
