Science experiment:

The theme this week is food. All of our experiments, although inedible, will incorporate food in some way.

Dancing Raisins
First the kids filled clear cups with club soda and made predictions as to what would happen if they dropped in a chocolate chip. (We modified this experiment to use chocolate chips instead of raisins because previous "scientists" claimed to have better results that way.) Next they dropped one chocolate chip into each glass and watched as they sunk to the bottom. They then watched as the bubbles from the soda started to stick to the sides of the chocolate chip and make it float back to the top. Once at the top, the bubbles popped and the chocolate chip sunk back down, repeating this cycle a few times and giving the illusion of "dancing"! We then discussed the hows and whys of their results and compared them to their initial predictions.

Physical activity:
Long walk on the bicycle path. We also played Green Light/Red Light along the way!

Outing/social time:
None.

Worksheets:
Coloring E word pictures, tracing letter E, tracing E words, counting and finding numeral, differentiating between fruits and vegetables, matching food item to food group, matching uppercase to lowercase letters (A-E), writing letters review (A-E), cutting straight lines.

Hands on math:
Play with buttons - counting, easy addition & subtraction, multiplication concepts, patterns, estimating who has most, estimating total, sorting by colour, sorting by shape.

Computers:
Food games on the iPad in English and French (eFlash French, Play 2 Learn French, Food Festival, Breakfast Bash).

Music:
Danced and sang along to our eating theme compilation cd, calling out food items from songs in French.

French:
French is emphasized throughout the entire day; especially theme related words. Today we practiced asking "Est-ce que je peux boire de l'eau s'il-vous-plait?" when they are thirsty and continued to reinforce all the notions we covered in previous weeks. We will continue to practice these sentences all week.
