Science experiment:

The themes for this week's science experiments will all begin with the letter F!

Force
Today we investigated the concept of force by having the kids kick a soccer ball across the yard to a line in the grass. After their initial kicks they described what happened (went too far, not far enough), what they would do to get closer to the target the next time around (use less force, use more force) and then tried again. I then moved the line very close to them and had them repeat the exercise, but this time trying not to have the ball cross the line. They once again described what happened with their initial kicks and how to adjust them for the second attempts. We then discussed how using a lot of force can move the ball very far, while using only a little bit of force would make the ball go only a short distance. We continued with the investigation by having them push an empty sled across the yard and had them describe how much force they had to use to do it. I then sat in the sled and had them try to push the sled the same distance as before and had them describe how much force they needed to push it this time around. We finished by discussing how it takes only a little bit of force to move an object that is light but a lot of force to move an object that is heavy!

Physical activity:
Played at the park.

Outing/social time:

None.

Worksheets:
Coloring F word pictures, tracing letter F, tracing F words, matching family related pictures, ordinal numbers, counting and finding numeral, tracing and writing the numeral 2, finding 2 items in larger group, cutting zigzag lines.

Hands on math:
None.

Computers:
There were very few games related to our Family & Friends theme on the iPad (only Just Me and My Mom and Play 2 Learn French) so the kids played letter tracing, sound recognition and number games as well.

Music:
None.

French:
French is emphasized throughout the entire day; especially theme related words. Today we practiced asking "Est-ce que tu peux me laver s'il-vous-plait?" when they are finished eating and want to have their hands and faces washed, and also continued to reinforce all of the notions that we covered in previous weeks. We will continue to practice these sentences all week.
