Science experiment:
Theme this week is Air
Book Drop and Science at Work experiments from Science Play by Hauser
Book Drop: Kids ripped up pieces of newspaper and were asked to predict what would happen to the pieces if they dropped a book onto the pile and explain why. They then tested their predictions and we discussed their findings.
Science at Work: The kids stuffed a paper towel into the bottom of a glass and lowered the glass and were asked to predict what would happen if we lowered the glass into a deep Tupperware filled with water and explain why. They then tested their predictions and we discussed their findings (it stayed dry!) We also tested what would happen if they tilted the cup to let the air escape (air bubbles formed and water took the air's place wetting the paper towel!)
Physical activity:
Long walk around the neighbourhood to see if they could spy any animals with their arts & crafts binoculars - this spawned the idea of predicting which animals we would see the most over the course of the week. We then made a chart which we updated whenever we saw any animals out and about. At the end of the week we tabulated the data and verified whose prediction was right!
Outing/social time:
Neighbourhood walk.
