Week 1 - Thursday

Circle time:

Theme of the week: Animals

Arts & crafts:

The kids made these cats but we altered the craft by using fur to decorate the body and googly eyes, jewel noses and yarn whiskers on the face.



Free play at stations:
As described in earlier free play post
Station 1: colouring animal pictures, drawing and cutting
Station 2: animal puzzles (farm animals, jungle animals, pets, Lion King, animal train, My Little Pony)
Station 3: farm animal lacing toys, peg boards, Geoform game
Station 4: pretend play with stuffed animals, Little People farm, animal puppets, animals pop-up toy, Leap Frog fridge farm, barrel of monkeys
Station 5: Trio blocks & Lincoln Logs
Station 6: Basket of theme related books

Story time:
Arthur's New Puppy by Brown
Who Said, "Whoo"? by Berk/Devaney

Cooperative game:

Puppet shows, animal scavenger hunt, Kandooroo (act & sound portion of game), animal riddles.



Science experiment:

Theme this week is Air
Sail Away and Salt Dune experiments from Science Play by Hauser
Sail Away: The kids helped make little sail boats made from plastic cap lids, straws and index cards. They then took turns blowing their boats around in a baking pan filled with water using a straw. They also got a big kick out of blowing bubbles in the water itself!


Salt Dune: The kids filled the bottom of a pie pan with salt and were asked to predict what would happen if they blew on the salt through straws and explain why. They then tested their predictions and we discussed their findings.



Physical activity:

Nicki being sick and home from school confined us to the indoors but we did have animal finding races and did some dancing.

Outing/social time:

None.

Worksheets:
Coloring A word pictures, tracing letter A, tracing A words, tracing straight linesdown to up, matching short desription to picture, maze.

Hands on math:
Addition and subtraction math puzzle.

Computers:
None.

Music:
Danced, sang and played instruments to our animal theme compilation CD.

French:
French is emphasized throughout the entire day; especially theme related words. Today we practiced answering "Oui, s'il vous plait" and "Non, merci" to various questions and will continue to do so all week.
