Week 2 - Thursday

Circle time:
As described in earlier circle time post
Letter of the week: B
Theme of the week: The Body

Arts & crafts:

Since today was St Patrick's Day we made these leprechaun faces using paper plates. We altered the craft a little by gluing green felt onto the hat rather than just using green construction paper.

Free play at stations:
As described in earlier free play post
Station 1: colouring body part pictures, drawing and cutting
Station 2: various puzzles (alphabet, human skeleton, Ariel and The Wiggles)
Station 3: Play-Doh, stringing beads, Code de Couleur game
Station 4: pretend play with unclothed dolls, bathtub and doctor's kit (to target body theme), Mr Potato Head
Station 5: Mega Blocks and Sesame Street K'nex (Bert & Ernie bodies)
Station 6: Basket of theme related books

Story time:
The Magic School Bus Inside the Human Body by Cole/Degen
Arthur's Nose by Brown
Tastes Good! by Hewitt
Say "Ahhhh!" Dora Goes to the Doctor by Beinstein/A&J Studios

Cooperative game:
Played Simon Says asking them in both English and French to point to various body parts.

Science experiment:

Theme this week is the 5 Senses

Taste Test
We made waffles from scratch and the kids took turns taking a small lick of each of the ingredients (except the raw eggs of course) and describing the taste. Sugar and milk got the big thumbs up, other items like whole wheat flour, salt, vanilla and canola oil got a so-so reaction, and baking powder got a huge YUCK! While we cooked them we talked about how it was possible that all of the those different tastes could combine together to make the waffle taste we are familiar with. And then we of course let our taste buds enjoy a yummy waffle lunch!

Physical activity:
Played in the snow at the park.

Outing/social time:
Made friends with another little boy that was at the park as well (different boy then last time!)

Worksheets:
None.

Hands on math:
Used number magnets to write out easy addition equations and had them represent the same equations using beads and vice versa.

Computers:
Played a body part naming game in both English and French on the iPad.

Music:
Listened to our body theme compilation CD and tried to call out every body part we heard named in the various songs.

French:
French is emphasized throughout the entire day; especially theme related words. Today we practiced answering "Je ne comprends pas" when they don't understand something said to them in French and "Je ne sais pas" when they understand but don't know the answer. We will continue to practice these sentences all week.
